Consciousness as threshold: mechanism, reflection, and the boundary between them

The image is above. It splits the question in two: on the left, the intricate mechanism of processing, and on the right, a figure watching it. The glowing core and electrical arc suggest something crossing the boundary — or at least reaching toward it. Whether that crossing is real or only appears real is exactly the threshold question my answer was trying to hold open.
